Hemp should never have been made illegal. In my mind this is an entirely separate issue from marijuana.
I will not abide this abomination. (1224)

I'm no fan of Colorado being a dope smokers paradise, but I see this as not being connected. If I understand correctly, industrial hemp is a different animal that the one the hippies love.

Industrial Hemp (and the bans against it) have long been used as a symbol by NORML and other pro pot-as-a-recreational-drug legalization groups.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if it wasn't for the optics that many are pretending Colorado is "finally free" because we legalized pot, but ignore the fact that an actual enumerated right under the US constitution (2A) has been seriously attacked by the same government that is supposedly all wonderful and freedom loving because they allowed potheads to blaze up (when the truth is that the dems only support pot legalization because they know it will attract more ne're-do-well idiots that will vote for them to move here ... don't kid yourself, dems don't give two shits about individual liberty or industrial hemp, they only crave power).

I thought industrial hemp used to be a strategic resource because of its unique properties.

Default Hemp Flag to fly over CO state capital on July 4th, 2013

The real question is when are rappers gonna start singing about our state like they do Compton, LBC, Miami etc.?

Thanks for the good replies all. I have to admit, I have never (knowingly?) come across any legitimate hemp products and must have some naivety in the arena. This is evidently due to the misguided legislation of previous politicians during my childhood perhaps.

That being said, my initial reaction of disgust, and the reason why I posted the link is that regardless of the differences in hemp's utility and the recreational consumption of it's sibling, the political motivation and "positive PR campaign" we have in CO that is shoving MJ down our throats, makes me sick... When I saw this article, I immediately associated the flag as a public image symbol of pro-pot while simultaneously being disrespectful to old glory.

The enlightened among our members here may well know the difference and don't associate hemp and marijuana the same way I did, but I assure you the early twenties and younger crowd doesn't, and they're reading this like it's another victory for MJ, reinforcing it's legitimacy while depreciating the American Flag (in their minds) at the same time... That's why I had/have issue with it.

Just be glad it's not a rainbow hemp flag.
    At least not this year.

I see no problem with this. Better than a Chinese made cheap ass flag.

That's because that's exactly what it was.

Considering there's no industrial hemp production in the US, there's a good chance that the hemp flag is probably made in China
