It's not even remotely as common as some people in here are saying. Why do you think it's all over the news right now, and you never see it on the news?
I'm tied very closely to this incident, and all I can say right now is keep boiling your water. Hopefully the samples that were dropped off last night and will be ready to read tonight come back negative. The bac-t / e-coli test takes 24 hours to fully mature.
I thought the government could protect us from everything...was I wrong?
Good idea, I googled "boil advisory july 2013" and it returned Brighton, CO;

Boil advisory lifted by KDHE
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has rescinded the boil water advisory for the city of Delphos, which is in Ottawa County.
The boil water advisory was issued Tuesday because of a loss of pressure in the water system because of a water main break. Laboratory testing on samples collected indicate no evidence of contamination, and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination have been determined by KDHE officials to be resolved.
...and that was just the first page of my google search.
That's the government for ya, keepin' ya'll safe.
Ok, I guess let me rephrase that, in Colorado it's not as common as some of you make it sound, and everytime there is a water break it doesn't result in a boil order as a previous poster claimed.
If it happened all the time, why all the sudden is Brighton in the new 24/7?
This actually is a VERY good excuse to prep. I never thought of such a thing being a major problem. The old theory is that stores have a 3-day supply (true or not) but in this case the fresh food was contaminated and disappeared in minutes rather than days. Water is bad and the food is bad. Yikes! At least in this case folks can just drive a little ways to visit a different store but it certainly make a person think. This is going to be my go-to story from now on for folks who question even basic preparations.
WTF won't they say what caused it,other than it wasn't their fault?
We hold church in Prairie View High School on Sunday. The school is on 120th between I-76 and Hwy 85. It's hooked up to Brighton Utilities. We will have almost 1000 in services on Sunday and we've been advised to not make coffee or use the drinking fountains.
