Default Re: Anyone here ever done a juice diet?

    Day 2

    Starting Weight: 293.5
    Previous Weight: 292.2
    Current Weight: 289.5

My son wanted an apple yesterday so I cut one up for him and accidentally popped a slice in my mouth. Don't worry, I swore and promptly spit it out.

Yesterday was a little rough from a hunger standpoint but I got by with a little more juice and tons of water. I haven't had the big detox yet but have noticed that my tongue is white and furry which I've read is a sign of the detox process.

^Saw that on Groupon. I don't know if it's a quality juicer or even a good price but figured I'd let you guys figure that out.

Day 10 update: I'm bummed to report that for the first time since I've started this diet I've actually gained weight. 1.4lbs to be exact. I changed a couple of things yesterday and have a couple of thoughts. The first thing I changed was that I went to the store and grabbed some Low Sodium Spicy Hot V8 juice to drink. I was getting tired of sweet juices and wanted a change to the basic flavor I was taking in and so I thought this would be a decent way to go temporarily until I could get a juicer. My guess is that even though it's 'Low Sodium' it's still higher than I should be taking in right now & probably triggered some water retention. If this theory is right then stopping drinking it should reverse this rather quickly and I should see this weight I put on plus whatever I would have lost come off within the next 24-48hrs as things return to normal. I've switched back to the Botlhouse Farms juices that I've already had success with and have increased my water intake in an effort to flush my body of sodium. Here's to hoping I get back what I gained through water weight yesterday plus what I would have lost through fat burning.

I also had the wife stop by Walmart and pick me up a juicer and some veggies & fruits. About the best thing they had on the shelf was a Jack LaLanne Power Juicer so that's what I got. It runs about $100 and I'm not impressed. It was quieter than I thought it would be and seems like a well made product. That's about the end of the positive things I have to say about it. For starters it seems as though it leaves a LOT of juice as the pulp I removed was very wet still so you're wasting a lot of your veggies & fruit which means wasting money as well. The next annoying thing it does is that as it makes juice it pours out of the spout into the included cup but at the same time it sputters and spits liquid out the front too. So if you're standing in front of it and juicing something like a beet your shirt is ruined. If it's point to the side then your counter is douched in juice by the time you're done. I made a recipe that was supposed to be spicy V8 and while it didn't really taste like spicy V8 it was pretty tasty. I was still tasting garlic this morning when I woke up though so go light on the garlic. lol

I'm planning to return this juicer but will probably keep it until the one I order shows up. After some research it appears as though the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juicer is a good bargain for the price tag. It runs $59.99 w/free shipping via Walmart & Amazon so I'll probably order from Amazon to avoid paying tax. It has a more powerful motor than the LaLanne and has done quite well in the reviews that I've read. It does a pretty solid job of out performing juicers that cost quite a bit more so I'm confident I will be happy with this once it arrives.

I had to resort to a V8 today as well and am expecting a gain or no loss tomorrow.

I think you'll like the Big Mouth juicer. It's what we picked up and it's performed well over the last couple of days. I don't see any issues coming up unless it just up and dies.

Yeah, I'd like to hear some first-hand experience about the Hamilton Beach unit. I can only imagine the Jack Lalane unit is just some p.o.s. that he endorsed with his name. HB has been making kitchen appliances for a lotta years.

I've always liked V8, but man, you can really taste the salt in it. That shit can't be healthy.

Where did you find one? Did you get the one with the metal side straps or plastic?

That's why I got the Low Sodium version thinking that it tastes pretty bland by comparison I should be alright. Wrong! I drank quite a bit too as my body was liking the change of pace since I generally ingest salty and spicy foods versus sweet and plain foods. Ultimately, anything that can be kept at room temperature for long periods of time isn't healthy for the most part. Since they pasteurize the ingredients the nutrients and vitamins are 'dead' which most claim isn't as healthy for you either and your body doesn't readily receive and process them the same. Making your own juice from fresh fruits and veggies is always mo betta.

The LaLanne juicer isn't that bad and I know that 15 years or so it was the juicer to have. My buddy had one and as I recall they were about the best and only juicer you could buy. Things have obviously come a long ways since then and the juicers today are just better where, other than minor changes, I think the LaLanne juicer has remained largely unchanged. I think they rely on their name and existing business agreements to sell units now whereas some of these other newer models have to rely more on producing a better product. It also seems like the idea that you have to pay $250-$300 to get a quality juicer is being challenged which I thoroughly enjoy. I can't wait to see if the $60ish HB juicer is going to meet all of my needs.

I think I will hit up craigslist. Lots of barely used good ones there.

This is the one that I picked up. Wal-Mart didn't have the other model.

Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor

It looks like the main difference is the locking levers. Stainless would be nice but I think as long as I'm careful with the plastic ones on mine I should be fine.

I didn't see any of the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth's on there (other than some jack wagon trying to get more for their used juicer than you can buy it brand new for). In fact, the only ones I saw that I would consider comparable are actually more expensive used than that one is new.

That's why I asked since that's the difference in the two models for $10. The only negative reviews I could find on this juicer were that those can break with normal usage even by those who know and were trying to be careful. It seems as though that weak link was addressed with these metal straps and to me that's worth $10. My local stores have neither one in stock so since I have to order one I might as well get the updated version. I think functionally they're identical though so hopefully you don't have any problems with those. If not, it sounds like you'll be happy with that juicer.

Well, I believe I scored a few minutes ago! I was in the local Goodwill searching for fatass shorts (none to be had) and I found a Jack LaLanne Power Juicer, Model JLS-8, for $29.99. With my Geezer Discount and tax I carried it out for $27.53.
Plugged it in and it runs fine, nice and quiet. Now I just gotta clean it up real good and figure out WTF to do with it. But the major hurdle is cleared.
