That's a great way to look at it rondog. My son turned 3 in May and I realized that if I don't get my health under control, I'm not going to get to see a lot of his achievements. Being there for him and my lady is worth the cost of produce, juicer and a little inconvenience.

The Jack Lalanne juicer I got at Goodwill is crap, even though it's in great shape. Just crap to begin with. But, it's allowed me to test the waters and determine I want to pursue this, and it was only $27.53. Goodwill said I have a 10-day return option, so I'm returning it this afternoon and buying a Breville Juice Fountain. It's $200, but I consider it an investment in my health and future, so it's worth it. Besides, how much have I spent on guns, ammo and other stuff I don't need? Losing weight and getting healthy, I NEED!

    Need Hell, I DESERVE it!
There you go. You need to keep better track of your weight and post your results though. It's very motivating to know where you are and where you're going to be. I'm almost addicted now to where I weight myself all day long. The weight increases as I hydrate and drink juice but it's a predictable amount so I get a good idea of where I will be in the morning. It's also motivation to not think about food. You need to post like we are all the stats regularly so that you can track progress or walls and address as they come up. It's also easier to hold yourself accountable to those numbers when they go well or not so good.

I don't think I have spent too much more in food than I would have before I started this diet. We ate out a lot so I might even be losing money and I think of all the time I save driving all over town and waiting in lines and such. If you get down to gas prices and stuff like that I don't think doing this diet really has a cost factor associated with it unless you invest in a juicer or something up front. That juicer rondog got is a great juicer but a guy/gal can get started with a $60 juicer that is fantastic and even at $100 there are amazing options. In the end, you are trying to assign a price tag to your health so that's a tricky proposition.

I've got a breville juicer, we've just used it to make fresh juices, not necessarily a diet. Last night I went out and got all the stuff to make a big batch of the mean green juice. Plan for today was to just do juice and water for breakfast and lunch, then have a normal dinner tonight.

By noon I had drank 32 ounces of juice, and 68 ounces of water and I was starving. Decided to go to Little Anitas and get a delicious chicken burrito.

It seemed to me like I drank a ton of liquid, how much are you guys drinking?

I'm probably taking in an average of 160oz a day. 100oz of that in water and the rest in juice of course.

You should be drinking a ton of liquid. You also want to stay away from ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that you can chew. Even an almond or peanut. They key here is you don't want your digestive system working to process food.. even a small amount. This forces your body to burn fat for calories/energy. You give it the vitamins & nutrients it needs in the form of soluble juices so that it doesn't have to work. This is what forces the body to burn fat and after a few days those physical hunger pains will all but vanish. Every time you give it physical food though you short circuit the process and set yourself back a day or two. This is why if you're going to do it do it 100% and don't just kind of do it because it's not like other diets that are focused on how much you take in. The sooner you dive 100% in the better results you will see and the sooner you will feel better on it. That's if you really want to reap the benefits of a true juice fast. Doing what you're doing is still going to be healthier than had you not done anything but the results won't be as good and you likely will continue to be hungry almost always. I don't have physical hunger pains anymore and haven't in over a week now... nearly two. I get mental hunger in that I want to eat stuff every now and then like a craving but even those are less frequent. You will have small physical hungers but it's nowhere near what you're used to when you start to get hungry. It's just your body telling you it needs more juice.

I've heard that rule of thumb several places so I'd say it was pretty legit. It's also total water consumption which can be from fruit and veggies in a standard diet so not as much glasses of water if that makes sense. For this diet though I would say that it should be closer to the amount of actual water you drink if not more. Hydration is kind of a big deal.

Thought I'd mention my new Breville Juice Fountain is awesome! Runs circles around that Jack Lalanne unit. Got it at Bed Bath & Beyond, and they come with a Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead DVD. Nice bonus.

Oh, the Lalanne unit is back at the Parker Goodwill if anyone is interested.

Look at that! You were going to pay cash money for that DVD so it's like a free discount on the juicer!

What if you aren't good at math though?

The Thornton Walmart has the HB Big Mouth Juicer with the metal side strips as of Sunday.
A girl at work is bringing me a juicer she bought and doesn't use. I doubt it will be a good one, but it will be free...
