I've heard that rule of thumb several places so I'd say it was pretty legit. It's also total water consumption which can be from fruit and veggies in a standard diet so not as much glasses of water if that makes sense. For this diet though I would say that it should be closer to the amount of actual water you drink if not more. Hydration is kind of a big deal.
