From some quick Googling, it seems there are only 2 flight worthy Avro Lancasters in the world.

Saw one at EAA Air Venture a few years ago, rare indeed. Was amazed that it carried almost three times the bomb load that the B-17 did.

I need to save up and do a flight on the B24, my grandfather was a navigator on one flying the Britain to France and Germany routes. Him being on a plane was one of the reasons I wanted to work on aircraft in the Army.

Dave, it is so worth the $450 or whatever it is now. Flying in that plane for 30 minutes was truly one best half hours of my life. Having that little bit of to experience what my Grandfather did is amazing when you think what it was like for these men in the 1940's. Do whatever you need to do to get on that plane, rob a 7-11, work Colfax, I promise it will be worth it.

WestPac Restorations, a group of retired Air Force officers, and some aviation aficionados recently opened the National Museum of World War II Aviation, in the Springs. I have yet to take the tour, but was in the facility for a rally recently. As I understand it, part of the tour takes you through the restoration facility, and I get the impression the guys working on the aircraft are into answering questions.

I'll take my boys over before the summer ends and report back.

Also, the museum on Peterson is excellent if you can get in. We had a retired Msgt give us the tour of building, He just hung out and talked to my sons like they were his grandkids. Educated them on working in the silos and all they inside. Great stuff.
