I'd say just go to a dealer that knows the law with your PCS orders.

But, because of the BS, Colorado - Texas (res) = no (reality). I am aware that theoretically, Colorado - Texas should be okay. Now Texas - Colorado (res) as some have posted is the case would probably be just fine, I doubt NCICs would throw any fuss at all.
We did it all the time at jensens. As long as you were not from a state that prohibited the long gun, CBI approved it. EXCEPT FOR CA residents. I know every lgs in NoCo i deal with any long gun and a valid DL CBI approves the sale. You can buy a hand gun PROVIDING you had a signed FFL copy. That enabled you to pay for the hand gun and FFL transfer & S&H fees. After being paid the hand gun is sent off to your ffl.

EXACTLY CORRECT. Don't know why it's so difficult for people to understand the above. The old requirement of being in an adjoining State doesn't mean anything anymore in the legal transfer of long guns. Right jim??

The name of the business is Blackland Gun Works from Taylor, TX. I spoke with the owner, Eric Winklemann.

i ended up getting the gun via FFL to FFL transfer from a guy in the booth right next to his at the gun show. I paid retail during the FFL transfer, but I was willing to pay more at first.

Adjoining states went away with FOPA 1986 at the federal level, as of 5/19/1986 - the same piece of legislation that allowed interstate/mail order ammo sales again, and outlawed new machineguns.

Colorado does still have a law on the books specifically ALLOWING purchases of long guns from FFLs by persons from adjoining states, but has no law forbidding purchases from persons not in adjoining states anymore, so those are legal, too.

California law requires purchases by its residents to be executed with a dealer record of sale (DROS), which can only be done by a California FFL - so while Colorado law would allow a California resident to purchase a long gun from an FFL here, California law forbids that transaction, and ATF/NICS will not approve those transfers.
