Well, now that you posted that on the internet, you can expect the NSA/FBI/BATFE/DHS/Aunt Janet etc, to be knocking on your door tomorrow to declare you mentally unstable and unfit to own firearms..

Aunt Janet quit so that's one less ... but honestly if I'm not already on a dozen lists I must be doing something wrong

Also Z, If (and only if) the ENTIRE continental US was EMP'd, I would argue that it would take us back further than the 1950s. Probably closer to the 1930s in some regards, and back into the 1800s in others. The whole power grid, distribution of food, fuel and other resources, as well as nearly all communication would be down for months, if not a year or more. All of our manufacturing uses technology that would go "POOF!" in an EMP. We would be starting a lot of things from scratch.

If it was just one part of the continental US, then we would be mostly back up and running withing a few months, but things would be awfully ugly in the meantime.

I still contend that the effects of EMP weapons are grossly over stated. An EMP weapon (especially a single weapon) is not going to turn America into the world depicted in Dark Angel and certainly not Revolution. I did a bit of research on this when I bought my Jeep ('70 CJ5) as I wanted to make it into an EMP proof survivor vehicle and basically all I have to do is not be driving it directly under the blast zone at the instant the EMP weapon goes off ... and if I do, just replace the points, condenser and maybe battery and I'll be fine.
