Default No Walmart Wyoming sales of firearms to Colorado residents?

I happened to be at the Walmart in Cheyenne this weekend, where I saw a rifle I wanted to purchase.

As soon as I mentioned to the clerks I was from Colorado I was told I could not purchase any firearms there. One of the workers behind the counter said it was a recent policy change. The other worker hadn't heard about it so he tried entering my purchase into their system. The purchase was denied as soon as they entered I was from Colorado, before even getting to the screen where they enter what the firearm is. In other words it isn't related to magazine capacity, it is just a blanket prohibition on selling longarms to Coloradoans.

Anyone else heard anything about this or experienced this for themselves? Am I missing something in my understanding of these new laws that just passed? As far as I knew I thought I could still purchase longarms out-of-state.

No law has changed that would prohibit you from purchasing a long gun in WY.

Of course you can purchase long arms in WY, no laws against it. Sounds like a discrimination case against Walmart.

That's what I thought. Initially I thought the first clerk was just full of bull, but the second clerk tried to make the sale and it was denied. So this sounds like some random Walmart policy change - but generally I thought Walmart was pretty gun friendly. And the clerks made it clear they could sell to residents of some other states, just that Colorado has been added to their "no sell" list.

As stupid as the decision by Walmart to deny sales to CO residents, I will support their right to do it. Last I checked, they are still not owned by the government, and therefore have the opportunity to deny sales of anything to anyone if they so choose. Just like I would support a cake decorator electing to not make a wedding cake for a gay couple if the decorator did not want to do so. There is no constitutional right to walk in to any retailer and buy whatever you want. If it pisses you off, don't shop there anymore.

I didn't say I was pissed off at Walmart. My first thought was that there has been some legislative change I wasn't aware of. My second thought was that this was a strange policy from a generally gun-friendly company. My question here on the board was if anybody else had heard about this.

I have my theory as to why they are doing this, but I don't want to speculate or make any assumptions.
