Don't laugh, but good running shoes made to fit your feet are going to probably be the best. Go to a running shoe store and find what fits. Once I found what shoes fit my feet, all the pains went away. The difference between one with high arches, long toes, flat wide ball of feet, and underpronates compared to flat feet with no arch and overpronates is huge. Get the wrong shoe, I don't care if you are standing, walking or running, you suffer.

Cofi, concrete standing can really do a number to your feet. In addition to your shoes (make sure they provide arch support as well as cushioning for your heels), make sure you wear some high quality socks. I've seen socks at Sam's that have extra cushioning at your heels and the pads of your feet. I think they were hunting socks- nice and thick and they snug your feet.

When I worked at a place that had a concrete floor, I wore my combat boots. Altimas.

Man, I miss those boots.

I wear a pair of broken ass Vans with gel inserts to work, works for me. Skate shoes to me seem to be most comfortable. It could be you're getting conditioned to standing for longer periods of time. Mine were sore for just a few days when I returned to work from a long break.

Nike Flex. If you could wrap your feet in a pillowy cloud and walk on the heavens I'd imagine it would feel just like your feet do when wearing a pair of Nike Flex.

It doesn't matter what shoes you put them in. The orthotic replaces any arch insert the shoe has. They take a cast of your foot, then make a hard plastic insert for you shoe. After getting orthotics i buy cheap shoes, toss what passes for an arch insert out and use the prescribed unit.

No laughing... I dated a nurse once, and the last thing she would ever complain about was her feet... No shit. ^This is sound advice from a man who knows a lot about a lot of stuff- all would do well to heed Jim's advice (most of the time ). Nurse's shoes are designed to be in the standing position for extended periods, so they have to be comfortable.
If boots are okay, I got some Converse Stealth tan (non-zipper) combat boots first week in Afghanistan, light, comfortable, tough, and I still wear them 4 1/2 years later. Most comfortable footwear I own!
