Colorado closed that after Columbine. In other states you can go to a gun show and buy a gun from a non FFL with no BGC.

I've never been to a gun show, but what is to stop someone from going out in the parking lot or just off property and doing a private sale? At least before July 1, that was totally legal. Now you should probably at leat know who you are selling to/buying from.

    Default Stop the NRA Poll

Lol for a pro gun control web poll it sure seems like all of us "gun nuts" spoke out in big numbers. The 22 that voted for a registry needs to be added to a nationwide dumbass registry.

No it was not LEGAL. They have these signs posted around the GS perimeter informing you of the Law.
Your first sentence answers your own question. Attend a GS to see what's happening.

So you are saying private sales were illegal before July 1? What is the new background check law all about then?

No but any sale (even private) at a gun show needed a background check, even before July 1.

Before July 1, 2013, private sales that did not originate at a gun show did not require a background check.

Yes, my point was that other than the "honor system" there is nothing to stop someone from meeting up the next day across town and making the purchase. Has anyone ever been convicted of breaking this law because the sale originated at a GS?

There is a law that says this can't (or couldn't) occur...therefore it "never" occurred.
As long as there is a law on the books, all will obey it...law abiding citizens and criminals alike.
Criminals are known for obeying laws and signs...they don't want to get into any trouble.

You should know that if we just pass a law to restrict something, it will create a much safer community.
We will never have to be fearful that it will occur...EVER...because we have a law !!!

Colorado law states if ANY part of a private sale occurs on the PREMISES of an organized gunshow then a BGC SHALL be performed. ANY PART means if you exchange phone numbers with somebody at a GS and get with them a week later to conduct the private transfer etc. Premises includes parking areas.
