I felt that the fuel hose would reduce the chance of damage/scratching of the gun.

I know the title of this thread it "...with out tool", but since this is so easy/cheap to make and use and we had a few folks give the only answer possible for removing the handguards without a tool (strong hands), I figured it couldn't hurt.
