    Good event, glad I went.

President of Independence Institute MC'd most of it.

One of the Sheriff's wives introduced the 4-5 sheriffs and Dave Koppel. She was quite passionate about the idea that the mag ban is an unfair burden on women. As well as the way that the Dims on the committee treated the sexual assault victims who testified against the laws.

Several of the sheriffs came up with bundles of paper. One hand, about the size of a Denver yellow pages was emails they'd gotten in support. The other hand, about 10 pages of...non-supporters.

The Weld county sheriff got up and thanked us for being there tonight. He noted we could be home watching reruns of "What's that show? The Kevorkians?"

Terry Maketa noted that since the Black Forest fire, he knows several people who are in violation of the UBC law by keeping firearms in trusted friend's safes. Also, any of them that lost mags over 15 rounds, insurance would cover it, but they're not able to buy them anymore.

Dave Koppel noted that they filed 5 briefs in June. Rhonda "Dimwit" Fields stated to 9 news that all mags with a removable base plate were illegal. That got cleared up. They got "constant possession" clarified to "as long as the owner does not give up ownership". I.e. if you're at the range, you can let a buddy use a 30 round mag, as long as your are always in the vicinity. A further argument to that is if a Sheriff goes to work and tells his daughter that if there's trouble use the AR with a 30 round mag. That breaks the law because he wouldn't be there.

    Unenforceable came up several times.

Basically it came down to Heller. What guns are commonly available to civilians. "Standard" magazines vs. "hi-capacity". How it greatly affects the disabled by needing to change mags; women who are less trained in mag changes, etc.

The lawsuit is scheduled for December. They noted it could go on for years. The main take away from this is they said this could be the case that ends up before the supreme court someday that once and for all clarifies magazine limits, UBC, etc.

Nice... too bad I missed it. I donated to them and pray for their success.
