I have heard both good and bad about them. Just like everything. My Dodge has 180K on it and has chewed up only $600 in non maint items in the 12 years I have had it, gets 18 in town and 21 on the highway. It is not going anywhere.
I glanced at the first couple of pages. So #1 lets go with the rod through the block. #2 lets go with a rod through the block. Normally old school says on a factory engine that too many revs, too much abuse but we are dealing with a boosted engine and yes I have seen them go south in a hurry and some of the strangest things.
First thing with the new engines is did the same cyl go each time? At first thought they are losing the piston first. But you have to ask why. Too lean in that cyl? Bad batch from the supplier?
I do know one of the engineers that has worked on the ecoboost project since the beginning and the last word I heard was there is a lot of head scratching going on.
