I think the docs in Gilpin start off with some bloodletting right away for just about anything.

Buddy did exactly that here in my kitchen about a year ago. The ER doc missed the fact that the tendon was cut almost through and just stitched up the skin. It broke shortly after and he's been screwed up since. Go get it looked at if you haven't already.
