The chamber is usually under size and not surface finished properly. This is what I recommend if you are not comfortable being your own gun smith.
- Polish the chamber with 0000 Steel wool and oil. Wrap it on a wood dowel attached to a drill. In and out, wipe clean and insert a "used" shell to drop out with gravity.
- If you need to remove more than this a brake caliper hone (link) with plenty of oil and a few back and forth passed, steel wool, check drop out w/ shell.
870 with loading and extracting issues. Blasted quite a few shells to heat the 870 up and have the issues show up. Be patient and when it's running smooth you will never give it up.
- Action bar is not pushing shell release back enough at open stroke.
- Found casting step under action bar on shell release side, filed, OK now.
- Action bar nut was loose, blue loctite.
- Deburr action bars
- Adjusted action bars to slide smooth.
- Polished chamber.
- Removed metal from stock bolt that entered bolt chamber (Bolt hitting on open stroke).
- Removed metal from sled hitting back of bolt chamber.
- Found the hood lock edge not chamfered - fixed
- Slide release area for trigger lock smoothed (Minimal removal for saftey)
- Found that shell is recessed below barrel edge. Breech bolt hitting causing burr.
- Checked recess for shell ring and removed overhang burr and broke sharp edge of undercut
- Filed and stoned perpendicular to bore until shell is slightly above barrel edge .005".
Smooth as silk and instant pump/fire when needed.
