nononononnonnonono
not on a wwII M1 !!!!!!!
Please, for the love of God and J.Garand, NO!
my garand isnt exactly ww2. the reciever is 1944, the barrel, trigger group and internal parts are from the 50's/60's. and my stock is from the 60's. its a frankenstein of garand parts. i really like the scopes on the garands because you can still use the peep sights.
Here's a mix of good info and entertainment on the topic.
thanks, it was very interesting but didnt help me find the mounts
A WWII receiver means it is a WWII rifle. If you tap the receiver for a mount the value of the rifle will plummet. But it is your rifle to do with as you wish.
If you want a scoped rifle, you would be better off getting an M1A.
I don't know if anyone makes a side mount for an M1 anymore. Who would you get to tap the receiver and install it?
As a suggestion, google S&K mounts. Their M1 mount replaces the rear sight without damaging the rifle. Try it for a while to see if you can get used to the offset.
Have you given any thought to a Scout scope mount and scope set-up? You can do it without any modifications to the Garand. The best price for the mount is at the CMP website, http://estore.odcmp.com/Store/catalo...note5=&max=100
Just something to consider. Personally, I LOVE Scout scopes, but not all people like them.
i like the side scope better especially the one that leave my iron sites intact. i will be attending gunsmithing school soon so any work is not a problem. i love my garand and have no intentions of selling it so the value doesnt really matter too me.
If you aren't going to sell it you might as well deck it out like an M4 where the owner has to much money to burn.
