The 9 active examiners take less than ten minutes per Form, on average, once it hits their desk. The long wait comes from the hundreds of thousands of applications stacked up in piles everywhere, waiting to be processed, as new applications roll in at the rate of 10,000 per month or so. 2 weeks to a month to make it into the pile, 7 to 8 months in the pile, then another week or two getting sent out in the mail to the transferror.

wow - 10,000 per month. $2M a month in fee income, $24M annually. They should hire some more examiners but then some welfare witch wouldn't get her EBT.

Wow, dude. Just wow. This just solidifies my belief that this whole NFA system is a sham. Seriously, an SBR is a pistol with a buttstock and a suppressor is a F'n muffler for a gun.

Don't forget the $500 tax on retailers et al annually and the "just wait" for the new SOT every year.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

That is unbelievable! Have they never heard of "digital"? If you can renew your car registration online, they should be able to process this stuff with a few key strokes and issue you a digital "yes" so you can go get your NFA item from the SOT. The idea of "streamline" and "paper" is an oxymoron.

Ooh, digital tax stamp, I like that! It would also eliminate the employees being tied up to answer the phone to check on status, they could give things like 12 different status updates, because apparently tax collecting is addicting.

Well this picture explains a lot.

All that paperwork and damn near 50% of the examiners standing around doing nothing.
