    Default Got fisted by HB1224

Yep. Got a call from a local police supply shop saying my Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm was in. $489.52 out the door with night sights. I was happy, regardless the 7-month back order. Now, prefacing it with this; I am a civilian who works for a police agency. The shop knew that going into the sale. After showing them a copy of my ID and drivers license everything seemed to be moving along quite nicely. 4473 filled out, backgound check passed....and then I get this: "Well, we have a problem." Because I am a civilian employee for a police agency they can sell me the firearm, but not the three 17-round magazines it comes with - can't "block" them to 15, sorry, no-can-do. So, the three magazines have to go back to S&W and replaced with 10-round magazines - No ETA on their arrival but I'm guessing sometime next year.

Now, I completely understand the law and the owner did the right thing. I'm just bitching and moaning because this law is garbage and it sucks to have a new gun in my safe that I can't go shoot. Not looking for sympathy, just ranting.

I have started this reply over three times.. I am pretty on top of the law but I think I threw in assumptions inavertently.. are you saying that you could have aquired the mags if you were law enforcement and not need an agency contract..

In other words, can LE purchase mags for personal use?

LOL, yeah that's what me and the store owner laughed about. He agreed, the law is utter garbage but his arse is on the line too and I completely understand that. Another thing I noticed and it added to the frustration....the magazines were not date stamped. I did post my frustrations (civily) on Hickenlooper's Facebook page. Certain that he doesn't read it or care but damnit it made me feel better. And yes, I know I'm ---> . I do find humor in the deal considering even my boss (who is a police commander) said it was bullshit he didn't sell me the magazines. Maybe (not holding my breath) I'll track down a legal magazine I can by at a gunshow or otherwise between now and then so I can atleast run the woderous work of handgun art. When people say, "Yeah, Smith & Wesson finally got it right," in regards to their M&P line...they are spot on. That thing feels just great and the only thing I foresee doing is cleaning up the trigger a bit. Absolute gem of a pistol otherwise.

Come on over, push me down and call me fat while yer at it too. Finding those magazines prior to July 1st for retail price was still impossible. Midway, Brownells, and everyone else was Out of Stock - No Backorder. So don't assume I didn't try. I just wasn't willing to pay $75 and up off of Gunchoker for them.

Law enforcement can purchase the mags, but have to do it thru their department and then technically the mags belong to the department.

That is correct. With a current LE agency ID, you can purchase all the +15 round magazines you want. This particular store had boxes of Magpul P-Mags for sale - LE ONLY. (Of course if you resign from the agency you have to turn them in) Feels good doesn't it.

All I hear was blah, blah, blah, yes officer I acquired the magazines while I was waiting for the gun which was indeed delivered after 1224 went into effect.
