Unlike other places, a permit is required from the Regional Building Department along with an inspection; as a Homeowner you can pull the permit yourself. They say it's all about safety, but to me it's just about the $$$ .

I paid $800 to have a water heater installed. In all the "fees" they tacked on was $80 for the permit. They also tacked on $125 to bring it up to the latest code and they did not. I ain't doing shit.

op: if you go the store brand route only go with GE from Home Depot. The kenmore, sears, state, whirlpool is the biggest pile of shit water heater there is. 70% of the water heater trouble calls are to clean the screen and or replace the pilot assembly on those.

plumbers grade: Rheem/ruud or Bradford white.

According to my paperwork they were to handle everything.
