Every one likes to hate on Ikea and they always say their stuff is cheap and poorly made. Newsflash, it's disposable furniture, and YOU build it. I am yet to have a single item of IKEA anything fall apart on me and this is after more than a decade of shopping there and moving across the country a few times. When I build this stuff it gets put together properly with heavy duty adhesives and I use a drill with the right attachments so I'm not turning their little wrenches for an hour to get one screw set.

I just built an entire toddler room a few months ago and threw it all together for around $500 and the stuff is SOLID! If I would have got the same stuff from some fancy furniture store, I was looking at dropping about 2-3 grand. If you want a piece of furniture to hand down, you are going to be paying 5-10 times as much as you would at IKEA.

I can't say bad things about Ikea items, because I have over 20 years of experience with them.

    My parent's $150 kitchen table+chairs lasted over 15 years (bought it about 1992 )
I bought a desk for $100 at around 2001, and i use it at a basement now. I think I assembled and disassembled (screw and unscrew on mdf) over 8 times since my purchase.
I don't think it will be steady enough to handle one more assemble and disassemble.

I Do not have $$$$ to buy stuff from Scandinavian design, oak express, or other high end stuff. Quality is better overall than AFW shits relative to $.

It isn't over til we say it is over.

I got a flyer from ikea in the mail, I didn't even open it, straight to the trash.

My sister likes that store though so I'm sure I'll have to go there and help her with something.

I bump into it, clean my guns on the kitchen table and when it is all fucked up I drop it off at the next thrift store, get me a tax deduction receipt and buy a new piece for like $20.
    Just sayin...
Okay, I really can't argue with that logic... although a good friend of mine bought a TV from a thrift store once and it broke, he took it apart to see if he could fix it, and taped inside the cover (old tube TV) there was a bag of pot! I'm always weary of stuff from thrift store... also because of this:

    Thanks for that Bluto!
I'll say this- I've owned only 2 items from Ikea- had no problems with them, and the quality is not bad. When I move to wherever I get a job in Jan, I'll probably live in a condo or something and what furniture I don't already have will probably be from Ikea- mostly because of the price to quality ratio. Hate if you want, but hey, why pay more for something only slightly better?
