help with a military tattoo

My son drew this pic and would like to get it as a tattoo, but now he thinks he needs to redo it. He thinks the boot laces need to be tucked in and the rifle pistol grip is supposed to be facing the same way the boots face. I just don't remember, do any of you remember if there is a significance to the way the rifle faces? It is a memorial to all that have given there lives in service and he wants it to be right. He will be adding dog tags before tattooing Thanks.
