    http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/planes/

Planes has enough bright colors, goofy voices, and slick animation to distract some young viewers for 92 minutes -- and probably sell plenty of toys in the bargain -- but on nearly every other level, it's a Disney disappointment.

Went today, kid loved it but cried at the end because he couldn't meet Dusty the star character after it was over. It was his first movie ever, just turned 3. I will say this, don't take a kid to the 3D version or you will spend half the time trying to help them get their glasses back on after you reassemble them in the dark. Fun movie though, and most of the aviation stuff was fairly accurate although when a left engine fails you don't typically roll to the right... Other than that it was great for a kids movie!

I hope this one does well, wouldn't mind seeing them do a sequel to see where they can take this new airplane world like they did with the Cars version.

Planes was first slated to go direct to DVD. It looks like they should have stuck with that.

    Cars - Budget $70MM - opening weekend 2006 - $60MM - US Gross $244MM
    Planes - Budget $50MM - Opening weekend 2013 - $22.5MM

Don't count on a sequel anywhere but direct to disc.

ETA: Weekend box office is in for Planes.

Yeah, I took the kids to see it too. Even they thought it was "off" a bit and not as good as the other Pixar movies. Hearing about direct-to-DVD makes sense. Still, if you can stomach the price of movies these days, it's not a bad movie, and was a nice break with the kids. Just don't expect the "next big Pixar movie" or anything.

I was making up for the fact we couldn't go camping this weekend, due to all the weather. I guess it worked.

It was my son's first movie too (2.5 yrs old). It was not bad, it was very predictable and safe so a good little kids movie. Not deep like WallE or finding Nemo but I thought it was better than Brave. We went to a morning movie so price was not too bad at $6 a piece.
