Chicago Teaching style: 3x4=11 is ok

Imagine if we built cars close enough to concept or airplanes etc...yeah that engine is supposed to have 30 fan blades but 29 is close enough.
When it comes to math you are either right or wrong. There are different methods of getting there but you all end up at the same place.

I don't care if you can explain why you think the wrong answer is right. Unless your math says 3x4=12 you are wrong. Why does our society wish too keep accommodating mediocrity. We have the most technology that the world has ever seen, yet our literacy and computing abilities are abysmal. What ever happened to people thirsting for knowledge rather than just wanting the right answer to get someone off their back?

That's right if you're in Base 11 (or Base A):
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A as unique digits so 3x4 == 11 ...



Not that I expect Chicago Public School teachers to understand anything about radix conversions ...
