Been doing Keto since February, and I'm down 80 pounds (still not, and never will be a little guy by any means). I didn't realize just how bad I'd let myself go, and decided I needed to do something about it. There are a lot of articles out on the internet, Facebook groups, and various other sources to get good information on how to eat Keto. The basics are higher fat (good fats - coconut oil, avocados, etc), moderate protein, and low carb. I can definitely tell if I've eaten something that is high in sugar (yes, the occasional cheat day is allowed) as it completely screws with my head as well. More energy without the sugar than with it as Hurley said.

Something for you to do - you want to lose 120? Go to Home Depot and lift up two 60lb bags of sand or concrete mix. Realize that's how much blubber you're packing around, and what that's doing to your knees, feet, back, etc. Gives ya something to think about.....
    Thanks for the encouragement!

I get to deal with pallets of 80lb bags of concrete, so I have a rough idea of what you are suggesting would feel like.

Congratulations on losing that much! It gives me hope that I can actually keep this up and lose the 120 I want to get rid of.

Thanks. I'm still more embarrassed about how much weight I out on than I am proud about what I've taken off. I still want to lose another 40 or so pounds, so it looks like we've got the same 120 pound goal. I wish you the best in losing the weight too. Hopefully you have support from someone else - it always helps.

Best thing I've found on Keto is the reddit keto forum FAQ. https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/faq

I understand the feeling. I realized that my embarrassment over putting the weight on was what was keeping me from doing something about it. Since I am still active (snowboarding, wakeboarding, tower climbing, etc), I convinced myself it wasn't that bad...

Well, being 320lbs is that bad. I finally realized that, and have started my "long row to hoe" in getting back down to a reasonable weight. This change should have come 2 years ago when the docs and nurses told me how bad of shape I was in with my pancreatitis, but I deluded myself again.

That's part of why I have shared this here, and a couple other places, is to make it more public so that I have a much harder time stopping and backing off...

Maria Emmerich has some excellent books available, as well as a terrific website with lots of information and recipes.

I'm tired of being a fat f*ck, and several of the guys I work with have had excellent success losing, and keeping it off, pretty significant weight using the keto diet.

Thus far, 3 days in, it isn't too bad.

    I've been eating:

    Proteins:
Chicken - either buffalo or just seasoned and baked, will add smoked into the mix later this week
    Beef
Dairy - cheese, whole milk cottage cheese, etc.

    Fat Sources:
    Hard Boiled Eggs
    Smoked Salmon
Avacado - I've been eating an avacado a day
    Almonds
    Coconut Oil

    Veggies:
    Asparagus
    Broccoli
    Cauliflower

    Drinking:
    Water
Sun tea with a hint of sweet from Stevia or Xylitol. (this really helps me with my sugar cravings - my one true addiction)

I've managed to cut coffee entirely, which is pretty good since I used to drink a large cup or 2 a day.

So, we'll see. The pizza will be on the list to try.
When you plateu, drop the cottage cheese. Whole milk products, such as cottage cheese, are high in carbs.
Do you like summer squash and zucchini? You can enjoy those without worry of carbs.

I present you with the most amazing waffle/pancake recipe you'll ever want. Keep in mind that because they use a combination of almond flour and coconut flour, the waffles will not be as sturdy as regular flour waffles are when you pull them from the waffle maker.

    These are amazing, and filling.

Those look amazing! I've been using a similar recipe that is coconut flour, but calls for twice the amount of eggs, they are good, but don't look nearly as fluffy as those do. I'll be trying this one next, thanks for the recipe!

This recipe reminded me, for those looking to get serious about keto, you can find really good substitutes for many of the things you like to indulge in, but expect to pay a bit more, as the almond flours and coconut flours are not cheap.
