'The Most Dangerous Place in Denver' right over LoDo/16th Street.

Can't say I disagree. If you're under the age of 30, and out past 9 PM, expect that any group of three or more shitheads will try and lure you into a fight. I absolutely hate downtown Denver at night, and I got the pleasure of being down there last night after a late family dinner at Magiano's. I then had the good fortune to walk all the way down to 15th and Tremont, only to realize I walked the wrong way, and legged it back to 15th and Stout where I was parked. Plenty of upstanding citizens in flat-billed hats and ill-fitting striped button-ups were really sharing their sense of community and social grace.

If I spent any significant amount of time around those people at night on the weekends, I think I'd have to add some sort of non-lethal kit to my EDC setup, since I have to wait until they're actually stomping my head in and stabbing me to draw down on the dregs of society.

    I LOLed.

Doing a map like that for Ned. would be easy. Make Boulder Canyon the shape of a funnel and stick a toilet on top of that.

Yep, 100% spot-on. I stay clear the hell away from LoDo. I always carry a small, extremely bright flashlight along with 2 knives, & 1 spare mag. That's my EDC - every day. I feel you should always have a less-lethal option. I like the flashlight. It has some great personal defense uses. Caveat to that, I stay away from the ones that have the "DNA Collecter" heads on them. I feel it would be harder to justify in court that it is more of a tool than a weapon at that point. I'm not a large-framed guy, so I like to have every advantage I can. Here is a short video of the class I took from Steve Materkowski and I also own the DVD.

Isn't an arrow below Casa Bonita, as in "thataway"?

I've actually got a 320 lumen light with a strobe and defensive flange. But I just haven't figured out a way to carry it inconspicuously or conveniently. If I can find a flatheaded similar light that's small and CAN be shown as a tool as opposed to a weapon, I will jump on board.

Conversely to you, I'm every last bit of 6'2" with looong limbs. I started Thai boxing some years ago, and even had a friend of mine who used to compete out of a Gracie Academy in NY convince me to get into no gi so I wasn't lost on the ground. But despite the logistical advantage of that, confrontations still make me extremely edgy. There's just no way to "win" in a violent situation in the real world. Best case scenario, I have to seriously injure some random stranger for no good reason. More likely, I incur legal charges or he rallies his platoon to come and try the power in numbers approach.

I worked the back door bouncing at a LoDo bar a few weeks ago as a favor to a friend. It payed $100 for five hours' worth of work. Not at all worth it. An extra couple hundred dollars a month couldn't get me to risk getting assailed by a gang or shot when some idiot I tossed waits for me after close. Downtown Denver is a blast during the day/early evening. But it's got some strange Silent Hill deal where the freaks come out at night and it turns into a hellhole for twenty-somethings. I avoid at all costs.

P.S. A friend of mine had somebody she knows hospitalized in the ICU because one of the various gangs of hooligans that rent loft space decided to beat him half to death just for the sport of it. And he's not their first victim. Denver P.D. is vehemently "looking into it".
