Oh yeah, I'm not sure about the conclusions of that article on shooting through a windshield either. The author is obviously biased towards the 45. Most studies conclude that when shooting through a windshield; fragmentation and penetration are correlated to the type or quality of the bullet and velocity, NOT BULLET WEIGHT. He didnt mention either.

Food for thought: a 223 bullet weighs a lot less than a 45 and will penetrate through the trunk and beyond. Of course if you are shooting crappy bullets regardless of the caliber & bullet weight, they will vaporize on a windshield.

Somebody posted a link to tests from a local LE office (FC, Loveland, or something). They were shooting at glass with gel behind it, several different calibers and ammunition. Some bullets didn't have measurable fragments in the gel!
