    Default tax refund check

seems to me that everyone has been conditioned to look forward to the "tax refund" check from the government.

this is money you were taxed out of your check and then over a period of a year, they did what ever with it.

you ASK for it back, they give you some of it, and you're happy.. spending it on this or that.

you get no interest on that money, but if you”owe" them money, you owe them interest.

is the system not flawed? my personal bias aside, are they not taking out too much if they have to give some back? is it their plan to take a lot, give a little back (maybe) and everyone is just happy to get something back that they don't question the 'over payment"?

I would have to agree 100%, It's always your money.

But after owing more the last couple years, they send me $10 I'll be thrilled.

I once had to pay alot, and they told me if I did that much two years in a row, there would be a penalty for "under-witholding" and that I should setup quarterly payments to prevent it from happening again..

it was a one-time thing, so ignored them...

I try to owe between 100 - 1000 so the .gov doesn't get a dime more of my $$ than is absolutely necessary.

In 2004 I had to pay 13,000 on April 15. I have changed my habits.
