I may be preaching to the choir here, but this video (kinda cheesy setup) illustrates why it is near impossible to educate some gun control advocates. With closely-held views like those expressed by the majority leader of the Colorado House of Representatives, it becomes more clear why it is difficult for proponents of the Second Amendment to educate gun controllers in the hopes of finding common ground (see 7:10 into video).
