    Default Home Defense Load Preference...

This is strictly home defense shotgun loads. Im curious, What do you run in your shotgun.

Do you stack rounds? Stow it chambered? Mag tube filled on an empty chamber? What round is first.

I have mine next to my bed, empty chamber with a slug ready to go...or be ejected,

    I run a 2 3/4" Fed. Vitalshok 1oz slug, under that, I have 6 rounds of
Remington Law Enforcement reduced recoil 00 Buck.

On my stock mounted sideshell holder is 3 more Fed. rifled slugs and 2 Fed. 2 3/4" 00 Buck.

I use 4 buck managed recoil loads. More pellets and not much smaller than 00 buck. I've heard 7.5 shot is just as lethal close range, if I remember correctly it was out to 20 feet.

I leave my pump gun on an empty chamber with the bolt halfway closed. If I pick it up by the fore end, it will chamber a round.

Leaning up next to the bed, safety off, half-chambered (pump halfway forward with a shell on its way in). I usually pick em up by the pump, and having it sitting this way will chamber the round when I grab it while keeping it in a state that can't be fired if my dog should stick his fun parts in the trigger guard or something, yet I don't have to worry about any annoying safety catch. Half-chambered round has a full mag tube behind it.

As for loads, the first couple are birdshot since I live in a townhouse with people on the other side of the walls. The rest are #4 buck.

Well.. it depends on which side of the bed I'm on..

Either a mossy 590, or a 930. (got the semi cause the gf can't rack the 590.. too far for her)..

I start w/ some 00.. 3 rounds of such.. then slugs. I figure if the first 3 don't stop em.. all bets are off.

They're both chambered and safety off. I don't have kids. No one else touches them. If the cat plays w/ the trigger.. well .. she won't do that again.

My 590 is 6+1 00 Buck with the safety on.

I've never really understood the empty chamber concept and hadn't heard of a half racked pump before this thread.

    That makes sense.

I just don't trust myself to make that determination in a stressful situation.

Then its good that you dont.

I am blessed with the gift of "Logical thinking" in horrible situations lol.

I got home invaded a couple times. Thats when I found that out haha.

The funny part is I used to watch all those reality shows with people getting robbed, I would ask myself "I wonder how I would do in a situation like that".

Thumbs up In an 18 Year Old Remy 870 Marine Magnum...

...with a Fold Over Stock, Front Post Swivel-Grip, Mag Extension. Mods Done & Documented at the Time of Purchase... BEFORE all of the Assault Weapon BS.

7 Rounds of 2-3/4" stacked as follows: Two 000-Buckshot Shells, Two HD 00 Shot + 5/8" Lead Ball Combo Shells, Three Saboted Solid Copper Slug Shells.

One up the pipe, safety off (I don't have any kids) velcro mounted under the bedframe... I can easily reach it flat on my back or roll out of bed, onto the floor and it's in my mitts in a heartbeat. Quietly & quickly. No need to announce myself by jacking one into the chamber. I am coming on low & quiet until I decide to let fly.

My house is a 1940's Era Brick Bunker so I'm not too worried about fragging the neighbors.

DANGERTASTIC! -- Sorry to hear that you have had to deal with actual home invasions!! I truely hope that I never have to.
