Default Moving to the Denver area

Hello all. I'm moving to the Denver area- as close to DIA as possible for work. I've read that Denver has an Assault Weapons Ban so I was hoping I could get some advise on apartments in the area away from Denver city limits. I was looking in Aurora, 80016 zip code but I'm not sure what the laws are in Aurora. I was also looking at Parker but it's pretty far from work.

I'm moving from AZ and the gun laws here are great!

    Thanks for the advise.

Denver doesn't have a AWB in place (thank god) but we do have some new laws in regards to magazine capacity and private sales of firearms.

    • Unless possessed before July 1, 2013, all magazines with a capacity of greater than fifteen rounds are now illegal. If you possessed a magazine greater than fifteen rounds before July 1, the sale or transfer of that magazine is not permitted.

    • The private transfer of a firearm, even between certain family members and friends and while afield, is now criminalized. A prospective firearm transferor must request a background check from a licensed gun dealer in order to transfer or lend a firearm. The transferee may not accept possession of a firearm unless the firearm transferor has obtained approval of the transfer from a licensed gun dealer.

Denver had a 20 round mag limit, which has now been trumped by the latest state law.

Look to the area north west of airport. Brighton, unincorporated Adams county, Reunion area.

I work in DIA and live in Aurora 80017 (Arapahoe County). It's an alright spot being in the middle of everything. When I say middle of everything... Places to shoot and Race tracks.

    Welcome and enjoy!

So is Denver's 20 round limit regardless if you owned it before X date or is it 20 round limit period? If that's the case Denver law trumps the states 15 because I can still own all the 30 rounders I had before per that law.

It's a measure of the civility in this country that no ones seems to fear constantly pissing off the people who own lots of guns.

^^^ I would advise getting clarification on this. ^^^

It is my understanding that you are not allowed to possess 20+ capacity magazines in City & County of Denver, regardless of prior possession. The new state law would grandfather in your 16 to 20 rd capacity magazines in C&C of Denver, but 20+ is still forbidden.

Just my understanding of it, but I wear steel-toed boots and safety glasses everyday, not a suit and tie.
