My guess would be they are starting to hurt for money and are now seeing a price tag on everything instead of seeing it as a dangerous item to destroy.

I've tried bidding on these before in other cities, typically went to FFL's who were buddies with the police cheif and contained provisions about deep discounts for new equipment for the city (like ammo or guns for officers). But it is always worth trying to get an FFl to bid, maybe one of the featured sellers on the site.
Take your police bashing comments elsewhere.

It's VERY disappointing that this is a place where everyone swings from cops nuts and pretends like they can do no wrong just because they are police. I HOPE there are cops here.
Any cop who steals from the department is a FUCK and deserves to publicly outed, how about that?
