My mistake, I meant disinfecting wounds. Most people don't have a still if you make alcohol at home. Another problem is that if you don't keep your fermentation process at the right temps you'll get a stuck fermentation if it's too low or you get fusel alcohols if it's too high. Fusels are highly toxic to humans and stuck fermentations open the door for wild yeasts and bacteria to chow down on your wort.
