Diesels are cool. I almost bought a 04.5 Cummins crew cab short bed 6 months ago. But, I'm glad I restrained myself and bought a house instead of getting a car note again.

12v mechanical cummins is the truck to have in my opinion. Dirt simple, no computers to break, its a winner.
But like you said, no CC that year and the extended cab wouldn't be ideal for car seats. That and their still a pretty penny used.

I'm getting a camera system for the house here pretty quick. That way I can tell anyone showing up with a pizza I didn't order to f off from well inside the house
