Default I gotta say- I really like Krav Maga...

I'm not a fan of krav. I think it's a fad. I am a bjj/Muay Thai guy myself. BJJ you learn how to control someone completely, through pressure and pain. I am not an officer so I can't speak on the legal ramifications or policies if you throat punch or eye gouge someone, but I would think that would be frowned upon.

As an adult, you'd probably find better training opportunities in Judo than Greco. As a kid Greco would probably be better, because you'd learn more traditional wrestling at the same time. But Judo would probably be more effective in a scuffle, and I'd think that would be especially true as a cop. Learning Greco means learning not to use your legs in your throws, and you might as well learn to use your legs if you've got them. Also, clothes.

Hey, I wouldn't mess with a high-level Greco guy, but I'd be more confident of remaining on my feet than against a high-level judo guy. You can slip away from a Greco guy with a little experience, but a Judo guy starts grabbing your clothes and you aint goin nowheres.

False. Sambo is effective, but outdated. And Systema? You must be joking.

There's a reason why ADCC and Metamoris are packed to the gills with BJJ guys. There's a reason why when you adk who the best grapplers in the world are, everyone mentions Braulio, Marcelo, Vinny, Cyborg, and Werdum.

Time and time again, Judokas, Sambo practitioners, and countless other grapplers rise to the challenge. And time and time and time and time again, BJJ guys who are often only purples or browns crank, choke, and smoke all comers.

Learn BJJ to the blue belt level, then find someone to teach you basic freestyle wrestling until you have a solid double, single, and a few trips. There's not a criminal on earth you'll run into on patrol that will be able to outgrapple you.

Alright.. it's turned into a 'my e-peen' is bigger than yours...

I've worked with a few PD's who trained Krav for their SWAT guys but it's not their standard curriculum. More of a supplement, as Krav isn't made for control, it's to put someone down.

I don't think it's a fad, it's just the new kid on the block... I like it. Maybe for the looks I got when I'd walk into work all bruised.

Ronin.. bottom line is to check learn what they teach you. Once you get on a PD find out what their policies are.. Never think you're the toughest kid on the block. Never.

One of the guys I work with was on the Olympic Judo Team. He's been doing BJJ since before it was cool. He's been a PPCT/arrest control instructor since before I was born....

Even he isn't as cocky as some of the people I've seen on this website....

The character of a man can be judged by how he treats those who can do nothing for him
