of course we're not in a flood zone, no sirens or warning either.
Thursday morning was watching the river rise and packing up expensive stuff out of the garage (it sits about 2 feet lower and separate from the house)
friend comes over to help pack guns and ammo and such
all of sudden, from the wrong side (behind us and uphill, not below us and river side)
friend drives up and says "hey, the water is coming over the ditch behind you"
within 20 minutes, I had my friend move his truck and he's calling and yelling "GET THE FUCK OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!"
there was TWO FEET of moving water crossing the road and i drove the RV out pushing a bow wave
finally let back in for an hour or two to assess on saturday afternoon and they finally shut down the new river bed on monday and let us back in for good.
unbelievably, the main floor was untouched.
crawl space full of water, furnace trashed (ugh), half the chickens dead, garage and shed 3 feet deep in water, most of the expensive stuff in the garage I had gotten out mostly just cleanup now
everything is still muddy, driveway pretty washed away (got in new rock yesterday, that helped a lot, we were tracking more mud around than cleaning), the road is pretty hammered (dirt road) but the neighbors worked on it quite a bit on monday and it's passable (mostly), we need a couple hundred tons of road base. Dear FEMA, bring us some road base. most of the fences are down.
honestly, all in all pretty lucky, it's going to be a big hit and it's a big mess, but lots of people are in worse shape. (lyons)
watch your six.
whatever you are prepared for, it's not what is coming.
you are not as prepared as you think.
