Since this happened in Chicago and the Chicago gangs are run by the Sinaloa Mexican drug cartel, could these poor innocent persons have been shot with Fast & Furious guns? I bet Holder doesn't want to know!

I can't imagine living in a place like that unarmed. We should consider ourselves blessed (for now).
Probably used some M1 Garands and M1 Carbines.
After all, the carbines can take a 30-rd "banana clip".
Also likely that they acquired them via a trust or corporation.

My feedback
C'est possible but even more likely that neither the reporter nor the witnesses have a freaking clue on their firearm identification and just wanted to allude to an AK to make it sound scarier. Hell, I've seen Glocks and even a .22 Mag Grendel fire so fast that any amateur would have sworn they were automatic fire (technically, the Grendel was since the sear had just broken but it wasn't a damned AK).
They gonna pull off the "All guns used in Chicago are sold by greedy gun owners/sellers from out of state" excuse and push more gun laws.
