Default Need answer from small business owners

I figure there are business owners here and i can get a better answer than google.

So when i first file Article of Organization, on the one that says "The principal office address of the limited liability company's initial principal office is:", can i use my home address for now since I hadn't found the store front yet?

This will be for a LLC by the way.

You can. However, the name and address you list for registered agent is supposed to be a location that is open normal business hours.

Since i don't have an agent either, can it be me? I sense a bunch of fees coming once i got a new office location.

    This shit is so confusing...

You can list yourself as registered agent. The address of the registered agent is supposed to be open normal business hours.

Personally, I'd go S corp over LLC.. Can you use a PO Box, instead of a physical address, or do they want both?

I am an llc but registered with the irs as a scorp.. the address on your llc is simply your mailing address/physical address of the member filing the business record. I use a ups store box for the business mailing address but i work out of my home, i use my home address for my business filings with the state pertaining to llc filing records, all other business dealings including irs use the ups store box address.

The registered agent is simply a person that is authorized by the llc to file records. It could be an llc member a lawyer or whoever. I am essentially a sole proprietor, i have no partners so i act as the agent. For your filing you would be the agent. If you go to the SOS office and file the paperwork they will will help you with what you need.

Since you guys seems to know this, i'll ask something here than wait till Monday to call the state department. I'm planning to open an art studio and teach painting at the same time, do they require licenses?

Why a business vs. as a student, offering art lessons?

You also have to look at your local city business and tax license requirements. The state SOS.website has everything you need to know as far as state requirements for additional licenses. If you are providing supplies such as paint and canvasses and are marking them up for a profit you will also need a sales tax license. I can't imagine that you need additional licensing to teach painting but don't take my word for it. You will want an accountant for dealing with the irs and filing your monthly/quarterly tax deposits.

Do you have a business plan at all as far as what you will be charging for and how much as well as what you expenses and projected sales might be?
