This was an issue in the past with carbines; but it has been resolved.
The closer the gas port to the chamber the more violent, higher pressure that occurs to cycle the carrier/bolt.
There was initially some issues with 10-16" carbines and reliability, that was fixed with gas port diameter holes and buffer weight.
The mid-lenth gas systems has never had problems as far as I know.
For the most part, now even the little SBR 6-10" barrels are even reliable.
