Switch it up for WSJ, my friend. You'll find the articles better and the writers more informed.

I'm late to this thread and sitting here on furlough. Normally I would be making sure that the satellites that guide your GPS work they way they should. Who exactly do you all want to tar and feather or lynch?

I'm honestly surprised that is not considered "essential" .... or did they reduce staff to a min level and you drew one of the short straws??? ( this is an honest question)

I wish I knew Obama had this much fence lying around during the immigration debate.

all of them. this is a pissing match politics game. the democrats need to give up on obamacare and the government can resume its normally scheduled programming. until that happens I hope they keep it shut down. If people blindly follow a GPS off a cliff because it is off a few degrees then darwin has done his job. The aircraft I fly have backups for use without GPS and I have done it before and will do it again. I'll make it work out.

Obamacare needs to be repealed in its entirety. It is another shitty social program that will cost us billions, add more fuel to the fire for people to not have any incentive to get a job and quite contrary it will make them want to not have a job and live the lifestyle off the backs of everyone else who will have to work extra hard to keep their same lifestyle if that is even possible.
Obamacare is the same as welfare, section 8 housing, obamaphone, medicare, medicaid, food stamps/EBT, social security, blah blah blah.

All of those programs could go away and people could be responsible for their own selves. they save for their retirement or get a job at a company who has a retirement benefit. Get your own healthcare, pay doctors in cash or get private insurance just like car insurance, life insurance, home insurance, renters insurance and everything else you want to insure. someone on welfare might pay for car insurance but they won't pay for their own health insurance and that needs to be a government benefit....fuck that.

don't worry though, my opinion won't mean shit soon, you can get back to staring at the screen showing the position of the satellite and all its automated systems, the politicians will have a big celebratory dinner celebrating their agreement to get everything back up and running and talk about how important they are to running the country, and I will continue working like I always do except another little cut into my paycheck will take place. death by a thousand cuts....
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

Again, a good way to understand "essential" is, would someone be in working on that task right now if there were 4-6 feet of snow outside with 30-50 mph winds? There are a lot of tasks that need to be done but that can survive a day or 2 or 3 without someone tending to it. There are other tasks (e.g., ER doctor or nurse, air traffic controller, guard at critical national security resources) where you can't just look out the window, say the weather is shitty and you're taking the day off. "Essential" jobs are the ones where someone has to be there right now no matter what.

I agree, but BHO has plenty of incentive to make this as painful as possible.
Federal cops = overtime to make sure no one walks around national parks.
    GPS? Not essential.

That's funny because I was scheduling a tow yesterday and the driver's GPS wouldn't find the address I gave him. I thought he was on crack but it's YOUR fault. . JK, obviously. But interesting to know why it may not have been working.
