Default Need Home Internet Help - Comcast Can GARGLE THESE NUTS

I need some help with home internet. I have Comcast and safe to say it blows the fat deezie. I am beyond fed up with paying for 20 mb speed and every week or two it dies down to 3 mb. I have to chat with those ass clowns to get it back up to speed. Then I demand a refund for having a week of slow speeds and they refuse to provide it! My nuts are chapped at this point and I'm looking for something else. Not to mention with Comcast the damn bill changes every single month. I know they are pulling some shady funny stuff with the bill and every time I call in to confirm how much the bill should be they don't have a good answer and I get bounced around to 4 people before I give up.

I have heard about the other providers that are no contract, less BS, good speeds, and reasonably priced. Kinda like that Cleer option from Sprint? There has to be something better than this.

Please help. Oh and another thing, spare me the "rank my rant comments" because this was not a rant. I REPEAT THIS WAS NOT A RANT. Maybe someday I'll bring out my A-game.

What kind of router are you using? I was having speed issues, switched routers and was much better off. I don't have experience with any other providers to answer your question though.

I have a new Apple Airport Extreme. Whenever they do their little voodoo witchcraft reset procedure my speed goes back up to mid 20's but then something happens after that. The Comcast tech that came out one time tried to say it was my Airport that was causing it. He said if we used his my speed would be much faster. Safe to say I won the speed test so he said my router is not causing the issue.

Cable speed is only 'max' speed and it is advertised as that. A cable internet system puts you on a shared network with your neighbors. If all of your neigjbors are home at night watching porn and justin beiber videos your speed will be decreased.

Dsl on the otherhand while it might be a slower advertised speed is a guaranteed speed as you are on your own 'node' of the network rather than sharing with your neighbors.

There are also ther issues when it comes to internet speed. Your speed is also limited by the server of the website you are visiting. Just because your internet service is 20mb or whatever the website you are visiting still may not be able to give you anything more than a few megabytes.

I would wager a bet that the only thing they are doing when you call in is a modem reset, the same as you unplugging the thing for a few seconds and plugging it back in. The only other thing they would do is maybe a reprovision, but it wouldn't correct anything unless it had the wrong boot file on it.

My bet is probably a bad modem. Which one are you using?

DSL is by no means guaranteed speed. The farther you are from the hub, the slower it will be. A friend had dsl, was paying for 3mb and maybe getting 800kbps.
i have the 50mbps connection from Comcast and get 57 regularly.

I was using the one that they provided but it was not working and we had to switch it out 2 or 3 times. I bought a Motorola Sufboard that has worked better but I am clearly still having some type of issue here!

    Happen to know the model? Probably a 5101, 6121, 6141, or. 6580.
Have you tested to see if the issue is persistent without using a router, or with a different router?

Yes I've tried to bypass the router and see how that works, then I had a Netgear router before we upgraded to the Airport Extreme.

had similar issues when I moved into a rental that had DSL prior. Multiple techs came out to finally find it was a line issue at the outside box. If you are confident it isn't your router or modem, press them to head out to the box to make sure all the switches and dials are set right. (I'm only half kidding about the switches...if memory recalls, they said they had to 'reset a switch')

    good luck
