Default Fatal Shootout During Traffic Stop

The backstory: So this happened in Oregon back in August. Apparently the suspect was shot once center of mass by the police officer, but was still in the fight. The suspect died 1/2 mile down the road. The officer made it alive with only a gunshot wound to his side. How would you guys have handled this situation?

Enemy combatant... I would have called in a drone strike to light him up.

I'd have shot him with something bigger.

You never know, till you know. Hits count more than misses. Center of mass counts more than peripheral hits.

I'm glad the Trooper is well and the kids in the deceased's car were not injured. Shit happens faster than most of us can think. The dead guy was the only one who knew what he wanted to do in that situation.

I'd rather be lucky than good, but I still train anyway.

    Be safe.

Hopefully the same way the officer did. Successfully. Without seeing what the officer was doing it's hard to say I'd have done anything differently. Good guy survives gunfight, bad guy doesn't survive gunfight.

I can't believe the guy moved like that after being shot in the chest.

Last I checked, Oregon State Police issued Glock 22, so I imagine that was one .40 S&W JHP to the chest. He was probably dead the minute it went through his chest, but it takes the mind of a committed individual a few minutes of convincing by the rest of their body. There are lots of historical examples of dead men going on to commit their crimes even after being fatally wounded.

    Be safe.

Couldn't see what the officer was doing, but as an officer I think I would have already drawn. That guy's body language was about as suspect as it gets.
