I've been fumbling with a crappy chrono for years now, and I'm half tempted to throw that thing in the trash. I checked my precision .223 load yesterday and got significantly different results from what I'd gotten with my Shooting Chrony. The new data fits perfectly with what I've observed at the range, namely needing a little more elevation than my dope said I should need. The Magnetospeed showed my MV to be 2,600fps, SD=9. That was for 8 shots. My Shooting Chrony had been giving averages of 2,660 and SD's more like 15.

The owner of this Magnetospeed also has an Ohler 35P. Next time I go out, I'll shoot through both simultaneously and get some comparative data.

It's actually easier to use with a suppressor, but it works either way. The best part is that I get to use it without having to own it.

Kinda neat. Seems like it would be hard if you had and AR with a bunch of doo-hickeys hangin' off the barrel or an M14, but still pretty cool.

I must have lucked out for once. I have a Pro Chrono I've used for the last 5-6 years and only had a couple of missed shots total, and one day where I had issues with direct sunlight (had to move it about 10 feet into some shade). Other than that, it's been pretty darn good to me. I've shot the same loads over an Ohler and come up with the same results +/- 5 fps.

I have a 35P as well and is has always been good to me. I do know that it has differed from some of the other ones mainly Shooting Chrony's but one was off by 50-60 fps like what you experienced.

I will say that If I was looking to buy new I think the current 35P is overpriced but they were always the buy once-cry once back when I got mine.

I have never heard of magneto speed before. That is a good idea. I have always had a hard time accepting the accuracy of photo based chronographs because there are so many factors that influence their operation and the tolerances are so tight when it comes to accurate measurement. Even the temperature of the bases can throw them off by a significant margin as the materials expand and contract. This looks like a good idea and should be pretty reliable to maintain a calibration over a wide range of conditions. I might have to start saving up for one of these.

Seriously, it's pretty sweet. Useless for handguns, but close to perfect (assuming it correlates well with the Ohler) for rifles. Love it, love it, love it.

I use a Magnetospeed now and will never look back . Much easier 30 second set up , you can use it indoors , easy to change from rifle to rifle , download the card into you computer for easy spread sheets , easy to use controller logging shots , and the list goes on and on and on . I have never had it miss a shot on anything , from the small rounds like 22lr , 204 Ruger , 17hmr , on up to the big stuff . Yes It will change your point of impact , but will not hurt accuracy not one bit . I have shot my best group ever at 100 yards indoors , at under a .100 inches with the bayo hanging off the end of the barrel . I Have ran it in comparison over a friend Ohler and it read 1% to 2 % higher in speed , but comparison between the two was exactly linear and SD #s were identical . I get a giggle now when I see guys at the range dorkin with the screens

I have been eyeing one of these for awhile now and have been waiting to pull the trigger until I can try one out in person.... tempting.. tempting..
