But hey, thanks for your help

Oddly enough that is what the artist does, Work off your ideas and hopefully produce a design [or 2] worthy of your approval. But hey i only had 15 yrs in the business and 40 yrs of dermagraphic art involvement.

Besides it's your tattoo, if you're unable to conjure up a few ideas, perhaps you should hold off.

Put a sheet of paper on the frige. Every time you "think" of something write it down. When you have 1/2 doz ideas, start crossing off the ones you thought were good till you read them. When you're down to 2-3 find an artist and go from there.

Hopefully by the time I'm 70 there won't be any room left.

I'm not that close to 70 but just a tad more room left.
Those who don't have them, worry to much how someone else will look when they are older. Most of them don't have mirrors in their homes.

Iron cross or Maltese cross with a small emblem of the life goal? You mentioned four goals, so four emblems and cover each up as you complete that goal. Basically, once it is done you color it in and cover it up. You will always know it is there after it is covered up.

Awesome. I'm 40 and have about 30% coverage. The only regret I have is that I don't have more. My wife looked at me a couple days ago and said "Why don't you finish that sleeve". Guess I have a keeper.

I was thinking of something similar. Do an outline and have it colored as you finish that goal. Seems like a tricky one. Focus on something important too you, something you like.

Then it looks like a cover up. The only thing that covers black is black. He could do the opposite, add an item after that goal is reached. However it's still going to be on him for the rest of his life. Things like that should originate from the OP as everyone here. While their intentions / suggestions are helpful, the bottom line is we don't have to look at the design every day.

Find a good artist, view his work, get references, have them draw up some ideas for you. They will know best, where, and size etc.

If I make it to 70, I won't give a crap what my tats are.

I plan milestones/tribute to specific dates and people in my next tat. Going for broke, still will be covered up with clothing, but who cares.

I've got a shop selected, just need to find some $.

Well, the OP did ask for ideas...

To the OP: If you're looking for ideas on how you could design the tattoo that you want, then perhaps you should explain the 4 goals that you want to incorporate. That could help other people come up with ideas that tie-in together, and how to best help you. That being said, though, like I think Jim was trying to express...Ultimately, it's up to you. It's your body, you have to live with it every day for the rest of your life.

I think someone else also mentioned that if you don't know what you want, then perhaps you shouldn't get it tattooed. When I was 19, I got my first (and so far, only) tattoo. I had had surgery on my ankle when I was in high school, and had an ugly scar that drove me crazy. I got a rose tattooed on my ankle, with the stem of it being the scar. I know that being a female, a rose tattoo is probably pretty "stereotypical", but it had (and still does) have meaning to me, and will have meaning for the rest of my life. Since it's on my ankle, though, I know that I can hide it/cover it when I need to (for work, etc.). Keep in mind that if you get your tat on your forearm, you will be forced to wear long sleeves (even when it's hot) if you end up in a job where you cannot have visible tattoos.

I would spend some more time thinking about what you want and what it means to you, before you just go out and find an artist. But that's just my $0.25 worth. (I don't just do $.02, inflation...) Good luck!
