The teaser website immediately turned me off (pun intended) on this. Fox news broadcasting that the east coast is out of power followed by the rest of the country? What are they using to broadcast and who is able to watch? Even if those receiving are just to the few that are prepped, how are they getting that signal out? Power down means the internet is virtually off, and there is no way a generator will operate a high power antenna, certainly not across country. Watching the little news feeds, days 3 and 4 have the same dude in the background, bouncer one day, delivering a pallet of water the next. Day 8 has a hottie fresh from the hairdresser (again, power?) interviewing a prepper announcing to his neighbors "come and get it". And I am not searching for errors, just cruising the site. Bah. I know it is just entertainment for the stupid people, but.... they could have spent some money on and expert or two. I hope the show is better than the website.

They run massive generators just like hospitals, and other essential services do. regarding the signal, in todays age they bounce them off satellites, which in turn are received by end users on, cell phones, tablets and if the end user is running on a back up power supply their radio or tv.
During 9/11 land lines worked, while cell svc didn't for calls back east, in some areas.

The Dude in the back ground was more than likely doing "task other than assigned" as with any job now a days.

There are numerous threads in this forum regarding back up power, what if's, etc.

It'll probably be as sensationalist crap as Doomsday Preppers is, making preppers look nuts and in general doing nothing to help people really realize they should be prepared. I'll probably still watch it, but don't have high expectations. Just hoping to learn a thing or two more in between the "extremism" Hollywood like to air.

I couldn't understand why the toilet wouldn't work. And I didn't double check but it looked like there was a display on the digital thermostat. I'm still going to watch though. I briefly (for now) scanned through their preparedness tips and didn't see anything about self defense.

My digital thermostat runs on batteries so the display still works when the powers out
