    Default New gun law clarification.

    According to this http://www.cga.ct.gov/2013/rpt/2013-R-0198.htm I can give a firearm as a gift to immediate family member. My question, since I am waaaaay to old to be a dependant (33) can I give my dad A AR as a chistmas gift, I'm pretty sure we are still considered immediate family.

    Tax Code status has no bearing on immediate family in this instance.

    The correct citation is CRS 18-12-112(6)(b) which permits "bona fide gifts" or loan between immediate family members.

    It states that among the exceptions for the requirement of a background check is:
    (b) A TRANSFER THAT IS A BONA FIDE GIFT OR LOAN BETWEEN
    IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS, WHICH ARE LIMITED TO SPOUSES, PARENTS,
    CHILDREN, SIBLINGS, GRANDPARENTS, GRANDCHILDREN, NIECES, NEPHEWS,
    FIRST COUSINS, AUNTS, AND UNCLES;
    If you sell between immediate family, a background check is required.

    The chances of being prosecuted are very small, but that would be exactly what it would take to prove a violation actually ... ;-)

    Yeah, immediate family is alright. technically if you you could "pass" it to a brother, who could pass it on to his wife, who could pass it on to her brother... etc. Stupid laws.
