Yup.
I have a commercial grade blast cabinet and compressor with aggressive media. No way, no how I would blast wheels. Powder coat is a #10 mofo to to blast and unless you have a screw style compressor your gonna run out of air real fast.
Pay the price, let somebody who does it for a living do it.
Check with the powder coater, they should offer blasting as part of the powder coating service. I had the same thought when I was building a couple of bikes and needed the frames powder coated, I could save a few bucks if I blasted them. Nope, the powder coater (Taint Paint out of the Springs) said they blast it anyway prior to coating and the price was the same.
As a matter of fact, I don't think I would use a powder coater that didn't blast them prior to coating them. You want them coated immediately after blasting to minimize any possibility of contamination.
