Default Finding a new ride sucks.

Having to find an SUV is hard. Trying to find something for 16000 and under with decent space and fuel economy. Any recommendations

Rav 4. One of those ( sport futility ) vehicles. I used a R4 for a trip. Damn thing handled great, mpg was impressive, depending how much shit you want to take. They or others of that style may or, May not work.
Rent 2 - 3 units, to see what works, before buying.

Jim, I've tried the rav4s. We are looking for midsized SUV. The r4 is just a little too small for us

I'm partial to older truck style stuff with a frame and v8, but crappy gas mileage.
My dad has a 06 4Runner v6 that is great, but tops out at 20mpg and has all kinds of electronic nonsense.
Some friends have newer jeeps that get terribad mpgs with the v6, hemi with the cylinder cutoff does better.

What kind of gas mileage are you looking for?

Xterra or last gen 4Runner would be my suggestions. Xterra you can still find 6 speed manuals supposedly.
