Warrenty return issues on gun/mags over 15 rounds?

I have a S&W M&P 9 with the standard 17 rounds mags that it came with. I have had it prior to the new laws. I am having issues with the magazines sticking really bad and won't release freely. I called S&W to ask them about it. They said, yes they have had issues with the mags and would replace them. When I said I was in Colorado they told me they cannot exchange my mags or replace them with 17s again.

Does anyone understand how the law works for warranty stuff like this? Regardless he said there is no way he would replace them so I am screwed. The guy was a jerk on the phone. Think I am done with S&W after that phone call.
