I think if you're on any form of government assistance (disability notwithstanding) there should be some rules in place:
Foodstamps-
Only bread, rice, beans, cheese and powdered milk. Steaks and pizza are for people who have JOBS.
Welfare-
Your money will be monitored and only allowed to be spent on basic services like electricity, water, rent, gas and hygiene products. If you're caught buying movies, video games, tobacco, alcohol, stereos, rims, etc. you get a warning- 2 warnings in a 12-month period and you're cut off.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you.

Finally, if you are collecting from government assistance, you are no longer allowed to vote due to a conflict of interest, and drug testing is mandatory. Wanna do drugs or vote? Get a job.

For every hundred dollars they receive they should have to put in a set amount of time cleaning highways, parks, something. Same with disability, unemployment, everything. No matter what your diasability is I am sure we could find something productive for you to do. The rise of single parent homes in the nation is partly what caused the boondoggle we now face. Bluntly, they should figure it out their own selves, maybe by actually having a two-person family. Same for transportation; there is a variety of options for public transit, and if you're taking the government's money (I know, it's really our money, just using the expression), then you should have to give back in some fashion or another, so figure it out yourself!

Most of these people are also getting daycare assistance from the state or feds so I dont feel sorry for them at all. They are the ones who decided to have children it is their problem, just like every other working single parent, why should they be special. That is the problem with this country now, everyone thinks they are something special and deserve the American dream even though they dont want to work for it. The fact that you breath, eat, and poop, does not make you special, it is what you do with your life, and popping out babies like a gum dispenser does not qualify either.

I should not have to give up my American dream that I have been working hard towards to finance someone who has done nothing. A little help is one thing but this is getting ridiculous.

When kids and grandchildren only know a world where no one works regularly and the few people who actually have jobs work hard for low wages in seemingly unappreciated "service" jobs, the percentage of productive members of society being produced seems to decline in those circumstances.

Unemployment insurance seems to be a gateway to dependence for many in America. A little help over a long period of time tends to lead to dependence on government assistance. The longer assistance is accepted, the easier it becomes to justify and eventually, many individuals see the assistance as an entitlement. The woman in the OP is just an example. She is far from unusual.

If the cycle isn't broken, the people will revolt when the "bread and circuses" are withheld.
